Intelligent Robots at the CIIE

On November 5th, 2021, the 4th International Import Expo with a dazzling variety of high-tech products officially received visitors. The most eye-catching part of the exhibition was the technical equipment exhibition area. Many exhibitors had brought their most high-end products-intelligent robots, which could show their talents in various fields: building houses, moving heavy objects, screwing screws, and selecting seedlings.

In Fujikoshi’s robot exhibition area, two giant-arm robots were working together to lift a prefabricated house board. According to the on-site staff, these robotic arms could lift 350 kilograms of weight with a single machine. Four or five robots could work together to complete the construction of the house frame according to the pre-set instructions.

Next to the building exhibition area, there was a hercules robot doing welding work. Its movements were as soft as embroidering. The staff said that this robot could do both rough and delicate work. It can lift 600 kilograms of heavy objects and can undertake friction, stirring, and welding. The incredible thing was that it could weld two steel plates together without sparks. According to reports, Fujikoshi had brought more than a dozen robots to the exhibition. They will be able to build houses, carry, weld, screw, and assemble.

In the Epson Digital Intelligence Agriculture Exhibition Area, a digital intelligence robot showed everyone the skills of “doing farm work.” It also looked like a robotic arm, and the seedlings could be selected and placed in the hydroponic area. The robot “handled” the six green seedlings one-time on the left-hand side and put them in the hydroponic area on the right-hand side, with precise, cyclical, and tireless movements. It is said that the robot’s ability to recognize the quality of seedlings is more accurate than manual workers. “We can input the qualified data to the robot,” the expert said, “For example, The qualified size of the leaf area, and the robot will pick up the seedlings accordingly. Then, the selected seedlings will be sent to the hydroponic cabinet by the conveyor robot for cultivation.”

In addition, Epson’s numerical training robot is also very magical. It looks like a cabinet machine, but it is a “training teacher” and can conduct a one-stop service. Students can learn assembly skills on the spot. Moreover, the students who cannot reach the scene can use VR glasses to learn remotely. When they need help, they can also communicate with real teachers online.

Customized Robot

The R&D of AI and robots should be genuinely close to customers’ needs. At present, there is a lot of potential for commercial robots in the Chinese market. The combination of AI and robots should take cost, technology, and user experience into consideration.

The vigorous development of mobile Internet and e-commerce systems has promoted the explosion of consumer demand. On the other hand, the dividends brought by traditional industrial robots have disappeared. Therefore, the current demand for the entire industry is toward intellectual and digital development. People-oriented is the most important driving force in the robotics industry, and user experience must be put first.
